FEATURE PROJECT
Branding, Marketing & New Media

FORTHGEAR started working with a start-up company, BinkySpritz, in the fall of 2009. The client, a doting mother of five children, had hatched an idea to develop a new product that would safely clean "binkies," pacifiers, sippy cups and other items that infants or toddlers would drop and put back into their mouths. Her goal was to produce a "green" product, containing only all-natural ingredients.
The Challenge
This mother and entrepreneur had passion, a great idea for a unique new product and some logo concepts she wanted to pursue — but that was it. She needed to create the product's formula, find a manufacturer, and establish a marketing plan. It was also imperative that the new product generate sales as soon as possible so she could increase working capital and reach new retail clients. BinkySpritz needed to hit the market quickly, armed with marketing materials that would help sell the product to retailers — while creating a "buzz" amongst consumers.
The Solution
First, FORTHGEAR needed to develop a basic marketing strategy for BinkySpritz and introduce them to contacts/vendors that could help fulfill the company's basic product and manufacturing needs. We then created an identity (logo) and the product's "look and feel" in colors that would "pop" on store shelves and online sales. FORTHGEAR then applied this brand image to the product label and packaging, website, tradeshow booth, marketing and sales materials, social media and other materials.
The Result
With finished product and professional website and marketing materials in place by February 2011, BinkySpritz was able to hit the ground running! While the company's sales team started hitting grocery stores and children's retail establishments to establish shelf space, FORTHGEAR launched a social media and public relations campaign aimed at informing parents, creating product "buzz," and selling the product. Social media, Facebook in particular, was a great source to generate sales thru contests, links through to other websites and blogs, and serve as a sounding board for children's issues. By May 2011, BinkySpritz was on the shelves of many grocery stores and children's retail product stores in Utah and Idaho, and had been approved by Associated Foods to be ordered as a new product in 120-150 stores in their Rocky Mountain Region. Sam's Club also approved product demonstrations in their stores nationwide.
